I locomotori elettrici della serie E626 furono i primi locomotori ad utilizzare la corrente continua a 3000 volts, costruiti dalle FS negli anni '30 del secolo scorso alle Officine Nazionali di Savigliano, mentre la componente elettrica era fornita dalla Metropolitan-Vickers di Manchester. Queste macchine si dimostrarono da subito potenti ed affidabili.
E626 electric locomotives were the first locomotives to use the 3000 volts direct current, used by the Italian State Railways (FS) in the 30s of the last century.
