This loco is not operational, it has no traction motors. I don't remember if it still had diesel engines, possibly not.

@Romet.Lyytsepp Awesome views of a legendary giant! Amazing how basic were the control stands and cab interior - long before modern safety cabs became the norm.

@Romet.Lyytsepp - Nice series! Does this loco have an opposed-piston engine? It seems tall...
R
RL

@Maersk.146 Thanks! No, it has V12 diesel engine with 2000 HP. It is the biggest and most powerful switcher from soviet era. I think they still make them. This loco has 8 axles, total weight is 180 tons, that’s 22,5 tons per axle.

BNSF traffic at Sibley Bridge, Missouri, 5 July 2020
avatar
Federico Santagati

@Maersk.146 So much traffic! How busy are the lines around Kansas City? How many trains per hour?
avatar
Maersk.146

@Taurus717 - Yes, there is a lot, but it can vary quite a bit in frequency. BNSF’s TransCon has the best traffic by far, but can go from four trains in an hour to zero for three or four hours. All the other lines through Kansas City are even more sporadic and less reliable. Some, like CP and KCS, are hardly worth bothering with. On the day above, there were six trains in less than two hours, five in the desired eastward direction. Can’t complain about that density!
avatar
Federico Santagati

Well. That's okay. Is there a way to monitor that traffic via Smartphone or only via CabRadio?
avatar
Maersk.146

@Taurus717 - There is a system called ATCS which picks up the signals from the rails and reproduces the actual dispatcher's panel view of the railroad, but one needs a laptop with some sort of receiving antenna, plus a membership in the Yahoo group which controls/issues the software. Or be an actual railroad employee with the same equipment. Would be handy, but all I have is a RR channel scanner radio.
