@Maersk.146 @Maersk.146 - You need to share those colorful EMDX units with your friends in Colorado-! Glad you're catching them in their fresh paint scheme. How do they look in the snow-?

UP 4014 Big Boy
UP 4014 laid over near Utah Junction north of Denver, Colorado, 25 November 2019. Denver city skyline at left. Snowstorm moved in overnight dumping 10-20 inches of snow along the Colorado Foothills (east side of the Colorado Rockies).

@COZephyr55 Looks like you may need to come over here again, as they appear to be dedicated to KCS testing 🙂
avatar
Maersk.146

@COZephyr55 We haven’t had much snow here, and I’ve not seen the Demo units except in the yard. KCS is fairly boring and hard to access south of KC, so I rarely go down that way.

@Romet.Lyytsepp Great series! @COZephyr55 Nice view of the military train and 4014!

18 October 2019 Former New Jersey Transit 4141, GP40FH-2 (Built as CRIP 4715 GP40) were moved from bankrupt (in receivership as of October 2019) Iowa Pacific RR, Alamosa, CO, to Portland, Colorado, along UP's Tennessee Pass line operated by Rock & Rail (a Martin Marietta subsidiary).

21 August 2008 Denver Union Station had several Union Pacific business cars at Denver, Colorado, USA, for Democratic National Convention. Old Denver Union Terminal trackage/Union Station area was redeveloped by Denver Regional Transportation District in later years. Amtrak K-9 Security used dogs to secure the area.

BORON LOCAL AND CABOOSE. Boron local is departing on weekday mornings from Barstow and arriving to Boron sometime before noon. On this day (10/2/2019) they arrived at about 1030. After arrival power was disconnected from train and recoupled with the rear of the train, then picked up caboose and reversed to Borax plant. They need to use caboose because of the long reversing move required to enter Borax facility. After all work is done Boron local heads back to Barstow sometime afternoon.

Caboose waiting at Borax spur to be picked up by local:

@Romet.Lyytsepp Further information about BNSF loco operations on short intermodals - saw a 120-axle Z-train (approx. 45 platforms) on December 7 which had eight 4400 hp locos (35,200!), all of them online and working!

@Maersk.146 Ok this seems to be excessive..

@Romet.Lyytsepp Customer service to the max 🙂 It's one reason why UP doesn't have as much UPS and FedEx business as BNSF.

@Maersk.146 There are lot of them in Southern California. But still I didn't get proper photo of old Santa Fe unit leading train.

@Maersk.146 Nice to see that you have so much action going on there! And proper winter. We don't have any snow in Estonia, only rain..
avatar
Maersk.146

@Romet.Lyytsepp Yes, we have action and snow (occasionally), but usually I have to plow or shovel it, so this was a rare treat, to be able to spend all day driving around in it. Was already on vacation due to some car repairs earlier in the week...
