Btw, is EMD unable to sell these new demo locos? As I understand, major US railroads don't need new locos at the moment and there has been some reliability problems with new EMD's?

@Romet.Lyytsepp Thanks! Most large US railroads are parking hundreds, if not thousands, of locos due to the downturn in business and the curse of PSR. However, railroads still need to update their fleets periodically, so US builders supply demo units to the railroads for extensive testing under everyday load and operational conditions as a prelude to any future purchases. I’ve heard that the EMD T4 demo units have had a lot of failures out in the road, but do not know if EMD is finding solutions to the problems.

Operail C30-M 1559 "Rudolf" at Ülemiste freight yard 01 Apr 2020:
This loco was built in 1979, then used as Conrail 6580, later Norfolk Southern 8098. In 2002 loco was exported to Estonia where it served until 2008. Taken back to service in 2019 after major overhaul.
Upgrading works were done at Tapa workshops, only frame and bogies remain from original loco. New bodywork is by CZ Loco and diesel engine by CAT.

@Romet.Lyytsepp Thanks! And great views of your C30-M 1559! That is a substantial modification, and it is good to see these locos being utilized in some manner instead of being scrapped.

@Maersk.146 Yes I agree with you, It’s good to see these locos back in service again. There were total of 19 C30-7A locos exported to Estonia, initially they were used in freight service only about 5 years. In 2008 all of them were put to storage, due to downturn in freight traffic. It was more economically reasonable to use only C36-7i locos going forward, since they are more powerful and can be used in solo to haul long freight train.

At the moment there are plans to rebuild 7 out of 19 C30-7Ai locos, but if there is demand from other countries they might build more. Now one of them is rented and being tested in Ukraine.

@Romet.Lyytsepp Excellent! A photo-eye-style shifted-load detector. BNSF uses trip-wires on its detectors in Missouri.

@Maersk.146 Good that you point it out - it is indeed an optical loading gauge sensor on last pic.
Here in Estonia we have similar sensors and also x-ray devices on border crossing points.

@Romet.Lyytsepp Great pix! So that's where the "Beep" (1460) went; glad they didn't scrap it.
Here it was in 1983 at Cleburne, TX, and 1995, at Kansas City, KS.

I think it might have been, but may have simply been a way to use up some spare EMD parts in a railroad shop conversion from a Baldwin VO-1000 to a Geep in 1970 (hence: Beep, or, officially: SWBLW). It was indeed the only example of its kind - no more were converted in this way.

@Maersk.146 Fun fact - in Latvia and some other ex-USSR countries they are still using locos with two-stroke OP diesel engines. These are class 2TE10M and 2TE10U locos. They were Soviet copy of Faribanks-Morse engine design. And they made these locos until 1990s!

@Romet.Lyytsepp - Regarding the O.P. engine design; I believe that engine type was originally used in submarines (or ships), and adapted for use in rail locos. They may have been reliable, but the US market was so dominated by GM-EMD (with government meddling mixed in) that the other manufacturers were gradually driven out. I've read that the FM locos could pull very well, as did Alco and Baldwin products (the latter two still have examples in use by smaller railroads, long after the builders went out of business).
