The Batasia Loop was constructed in 1919, creating easier gradients on the ascent from Darjeeling. In the picture, the line from Darjeeling can be seen when the train ascends the steep gradient in spiral and comes to the bridge on its way to Ghum.

Rolling down from Ghum ( 7407 ft altitude ) to Darjeeling (7200 ft altitude ) along the Hill Cart road on its way to Darjeeling. DHR line is a typical street running railway and it crosses the road often when the road traffic stops on hearing the honking of the loco. They co-exist peacefully avoiding any accidents.

An UNESCO World Heritage site, Darjeeling Himalayan Railway was built between 1879 and 1881. It is 88 kms long and is a 610 mm (2 ft) gauge railway that runs between New Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling in West Bengal. DHR climbs 330 ft above sea level at New Jalpaiguri to 7407 ft above sea level at Ghum and then descends to 7200 ft above sea level at Darjeeling. DHR uses six zig zags and five loops to gain altitude. Steam-enthusiast specials are hauled by vintage British-built B-Class steam locomotives. The railway's headquarters are at Kurseong. DHR was built by Frankiln Prestage of Eastern Bengal Railway.

Tangerine Vande Bharat Express bound for Mangaluru Central made a nice contrast with the lush green surrounding of Kilimukkam lake in Kappil area. This is the first time I am capturing this Vande Bharat Express after it got extended to Mangaluru Central from Kasaragod.
