avatar KCS 616 was painted this way to correspond to the winning drawing in a Louisiana grade school coloring contest to celebrate the 200 year anniversary of the USA. The KCS Lines were always very family-oriented and had a big ceremony to announce the winner. They also later painted a second unit in the same scheme, the 642, an SD40-2.
