@Maersk.146 Thank you! This route is still in use nowadays, but only for local passenger trains and as a backup in case of failures in the 57 Km long tunnel. Freight trains no longer need multiple locomotives because the new line is almost entirely flat.
@gigi260890 I’m glad to hear it’s still being used, and being held in reserve. US railroads tend to abandon “extra” mountain routes when mergers take place, assuming the capacity will never again be needed.
