I don't really have a keen interest in American railways, but I totally thought that after the introduction of the wide-cab, this style had gone extinct by time.
@adlersson Oh, this cab style will be in use for years to come, due to the increasing cost of new units with the “comfort”/“wide”/“safety” cab. These older units are typically used in yards and on local freight runs, rather than cross-country mainline trips. Some older mainline locos are being upgraded with safety cabs as they are being rebuilt, because old units do not have to conform to more stringent EPA Tier 4 emissions standards and can be rebuilt to their original specifications at substantial savings over the cost of new locomotives.
Before joining Trainspo, I too had little interest in foreign railroads, but have since come to find something to like about all of them! Welcome!
