This is not a class 77 (6-axle), but a type 27 (4-axle)
storyPierre-Noël Rietsch.
It is a British Railways class 77 and has a Co-Co Wheel arrangement. They were built during the steam era hence the numbers in the 27xxx number range when they were just classified as type EM2. The designation class 77 came later when British Rail grouped locomotives by power output and type in the early 1970's. Hence diesel classes of type 1 to 5 became classes 01 to 67. DC electric locomotives became classes 70 to 77. AC electric classes became 81 to 92. This loco was sold to NS Dutch railways before the renumbering started so never carried a BR class 77 number. It has since returned to the UK as a museum locomotive as we now have no 1500v DC overhead electrified lines.
P.S. Class 27 is a Bo-Bo diesel electric with Sulzer engine.
