Intercity to Athens along the Aegean Sea

Nice! How old is that fort on the mountain?
@Maersk.146 I am glad you like it!
The 08.02 Intercity service from Thessaloniki to Athens passes the seaside town of Platamon, 25 km southeast of Mount Olympus on the banks of the Aegean Sea. Its most famous landmark is the 12th century Byzantine Castle of Platamon, built strategically along the main road from Thessaly to Macedonia. Nowadays the sea view is lacking for railway passengers since the line passes through a tunnel. In 1989 the Greek railways (OSE) ordered twelve four-car DMUs (also later eight five-car DMUs) from the Lokomotivbau-Elektrotechnische Werke at Hennigsdorf (GDR), intended for the intercity service between Athens and Thessaloniki.
@hansscherpenhuizen Thank you for that excellent historical description!
I remember seeing those DMUs on test in the GDR somewhere near Neustadt (Dosse) from a Hamburg to Berlin Zoologisher Garten corridor train in August 1989.
@nick86235 Thanks for your observation! It would be nice to see a picture of that!
