Electric train ER2K-980 "Yakhroma" restored after the fire

storyThe ER2K-980 electric train was planned to be launched along the tourist route as a Soviet retro electric train to the Yakhroma station in the Moscow region. Initially, it had the name "Sochi" for the tourist route in Abkhazia, but these plans were abandoned and the train was named "Yakhroma". December 13 was supposed to be the first tourist trip to Yakhroma, but on December 4, 2020 at the depot St. Petersburg-Baltiyskiy (depot of registration of the electric train) electric train ER2K-980, remaining energized while parked at the depot, received a short circuit, as a result of which 2 cars (head No. 98009 and motor No. 98010 cars) burned out. The cars of the ER2K-1018 electric train, which were in an abandoned state, were urgently delivered from the Novomoskovsk depot (Tula region) to St. Petersburg. In the shortest possible time, the depot restored the electric train to working condition. Such a vivid interest in electric trains of the ER2 series with a "round" cabin is due to the fact that it was one of the most widespread electric trains of this series, recognizable by its appearance and design. In a way, this symbol of the 60s-90s era for the railways of the Soviet Union has practically disappeared from Russian Railways.
