@archie250 These units (and many others systemwide) are stored because of a business strategy called Precision Scheduled Railroading, which makes Wall Street and UP’s investors happy (at least in the short term). They are probably mostly serviceable, but currently excess to operating needs. There were about 150 in this yard, but across the UP system, there are likely hundreds more in storage. Time will tell if the PSR strategy is sound or not. Another facet of PSR is getting rid of as many employees as possible.
