Ever since Indian Railways had plans to convert MHOW (Dr.Ambedkar Nagar)-Sanavad Metre Gauge railway, the last remaining section of the erstwhile Akola-Khandwa-Indore Railway into a Broad Gauge railway in around 2017-18,Railfans all over India had raised concerns regarding its effect on the Patalpani-Kalakund section, which passes through Choral Valley. They have made numerous requests and signed petitions to the Indian Railways to drop the proposal for Gauge conversion. Finally the railways heard the Railfans, and decided to preserve the Patalpani-Kalakund Ghat section as a heritage Railway. At present,MHOW-Omkareshwar Road only remains Metre Gauge. Omkareshwar Road-Mhow section would eventually become broad gauge by having a different alignment from Choral, sparing the preserved line. A Heritage train has been introduced between MHOW and Kalakund, which attracts many passengers locally and from other regions as well. This picture shows the Heritage train stopping at Patalpani waterfalls halt station. The halt time is 45 minutes, for the passengers to enjoy the view of the nearby waterfalls and surroundings. Another halt station has been constructed near the Ravine Viaduct bridge, which is more than a 100 years old, and has stunning views of the Choral Valley. Passengers can enjoy the journey as well as the valley views at just Rs 35 for a second class seat one way!
