Hunslet Barclay Ltd was only the second company after Foster-Yeoman Ltd to operate privately owned locomotives on the British Rail Network. The 6 class 20/9's were rebuilt in 1989 by Hunslet-Barclay Ltd from redundant BR class 20/0's for use on seasonal weedkiller trains operated by Chipmans Ltd and Scherings Ltd. Although driven by a Hunslet-Barclay employee they were always accompanied by a BR driver over the routes the train was spraying. The whole class of six 20/9's were sold to DRS in 11/1998.
