@tanelifoto More likely an operator error in the excitement of the train passing . Z9 was focusing on something with unerring clarity. I’ll have to check the image in NX Studio to see exactly where that was.
@tanelifoto Yeah, the focus spot turned out to be on the rear bogie of the BNSF 6036 (which was passing at about 60 mph/100 kph), not the front number boards. I'm just an old working guy, trying to enjoy a lifelong hobby (50+ years) with what is now the best equipment he's ever owned. Nothing more... Thanks for your comment.
@Maersk.146 During this summer i was strongly considering getting a Z9 and selling all my Sony gear. The main reason for that chain of thought was that Nikon is constantly updating the camera with software updates and adding new features and improvements. Sony sadly is not partaking in this course of action. But the Nikon dealer in my area was not willing to let my try a Z9 for a couple of days so i buried the idea ( i cannot buy something this expensive without actually trying it before).
@tanelifoto To be honest, the entire Nikon Z line of bodies was underwhelming to me, and I did try the Z7-2 but was so disappointed with the ergonomics that I sent it back and bought the D850. When the Z9 came out, it turns out that ALL of my concerns were solved and was $1000 cheaper than the D6 and the Sony A1. Yeah, it's still pricey but I'll never regret it. I've already achieved photos that would simply have been impossible with any DSLR I've owned, and I have barely scratched the surface of what it can do. To sum up, I think you should try it! Can you rent one from Nikon NPS? Be sure to try out an 85mm f/1.2, also. Amazing lens.
@tanelifoto Understood. Yes, that is too bad. It would certainly be quite a leap of faith to change systems without being able to try out the new one. Also, while the Z9 is easily the most capable camera body I've used, it might not be that much different from what you're used to, and may even be less so with some features. There are the new firmware updates to consider with the Z9, and they just dropped one today, adding birds and airplanes to the list of specific objects you can set the AF to recognize. I'm anxious to try that out. (I'm still waiting on locomotive number boards ) As with all complex electronic products, there are things which each system has which will be excellent, and others that will drive one crazy. The Z9, for me, offers great ergonomics, function and appearance, but Nikon's SnapBridge app for controlling the camera and downloading pictures from it leaves much to be desired. It's just not always reliable, particularly out in the countryside, away from cell towers. If it can't get wi-fi signal, it cannot connect and control the camera. Sometimes it works, and sometimes not. Let me know if there are any specific questions you have about Z9 features or operational characteristics you'd like to know more about.
