Unbeknownst to the crew at this point is that the third traction motor on the last of five units in this consist is locked up and on fire (smoke just barely visible). A quick call to the BNSF Grade Crossing Hotline alerts the dispatcher of the situation and the train is able to stop and set out the unit a few miles away in Henrietta, thus preventing further damage to the loco, track and possibly a catastrophic derailment. The engineer proclaimed over the radio; "Thank God for the Foamers!" Even the dispatcher commented that it was lucky that a civilian called it in.
@Ilia.Obuhov.52 It sure was! I keep expecting to receive a call from Katie Farmer, the BNSF CEO, or maybe even Warren Buffet, the owner, but so far, no sign of any thanks for saving them millions of dollars in derailment cleanup costs
@Ilia.Obuhov.52 Well, in all seriousness, when one calls into the BNSF Hotline, they do ask for your name and telephone number (they can get this info with today's Caller ID, anyway), which tends to cut down on prank calls. Apparently not everyone LIKES railroads as much as we do. Truth to tell, I believe the railroads would just as soon have everyone leave them alone so they could run trains and clean up the occasional catastrophic derailment with no interference whatsoever from the public.or the government. This attitude of greed over everything else is why the railroads have such a poor public image in the US these days.
It difficult to me tell you how are things going in Russian railroads in the same situation. What you did was a great thing! I,m sure the dispatcher and locomotive crew are grateful to you! I think the BNSF CEO lost opportunity to rise up railroad's public image in positive way!
