http://trainspo.com/photo/27293/#photo - we caught the same train now in northern Kazakhstan, near the city of Kokshetau. The line between Petropavlovsk and Kokshetau is not electrified, so the only available KTZ speedy passenger diesel locos were brought here from the Ayagoz shed (Eastern Kazakhstan).
The history of Talgo trains in Kazakhstan is closely associated with the pictured TEP70 loco as it was the only passenger type in KTZ for a long while. It was used for the first years between Almaty ans Astana though the line was fully electrified to the moment. Then it was replaced by the long-awaited Chinese KZ4A, but now it's back on a high-speed track with the introduction of the third 151/152 Talgo train.
