Thanks for that Dheeraj - it was the Nikon fixed 85mm that goes down to 1.8. I tend to use mostly fixed lenses these days; 20, 28, 35, 50 and 85mm - built up over the last few years.
That's really nice I was thinking of shifting to a prime lens for train photos..the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 for now. Will definitely try it out once. The shallow depth of field makes the pic look beautiful.
Get it, and if they do an 85, save up and get that as well. The difference is phenomenal; both for depth of field and in low light - though I expect you'll have more sunny days in India than I got in Scotland...! Great for portraits too.
Yes they do have an 85mm lens, but that is way out of my budget. The 50mm is very cheap and so I'll keep the 85mm for the future. We do have low-light conditions here, especially during June-October. But as you said most parts of India are much sunnier than Scotland.
