storyThe bridge in background, called "Viadotto Bisantis", was built in 1962 with a revolutionary project by the Italian architect Riccardo Morandi, having the ambition to connect the northern quarters (Gagliano, Mater Domini) with the city center. At the time of inauguration, was the first bridge in Italy and second in Europe by the amplitude of the arch, and nowadays is one of the many important expressions of Italian architecture and the most representative symbol of the city. The Catanzaro Lido-Cosenza railway rides along the bridge with the last meters of the 2 km long rack-fitted track between Catanzaro Sala and Catanzaro Pratica (nowadays last rack-railway survived in Italy, with a maximum gradient of 102%°) allowing a wonderful view of his structure. Catanzaro Lido-Catanzaro Città railway was built in 1926 by Società Mediterranea, and now guarantee an important suburban service, with frequences of 30 minutes, for the "City of two seas", name inspired by the position of the city, in the middle of the istm of Catanzaro between Tirreno and Jonio seas.
