Although several locomotives had been assembled in the various railway workshops in India, using spares received along with fully built locomotive consignments, the F-1 enjoys the rare honour of being the FIRST LOCOMOTIVE TO BE BUILT ENTIRELY IN INDIA. The workshop that built India's first locomotive was none other than the Ajmer Workshops of the RMR. (later BB & CIR). The F-1 was used for mixed traffic operations on the erstwhile RMR (later BB & CIR)
