These run on standard track (shared with 'ordinary' diesels), but wider between running lines (the 6 foot)
The driver sits in the gondola seat at the side to look back down the train - they often travel up the company mainline in reverse with the engine at the back and a warning siren. Very eerie to see.
They're 6000v supply, and with extra side mounted pantographs which are used when they pass through this loading bay, as obviously high voltage cables and a coal drop aren't the best together...
One of the newer (but similar design) EL 2000s is at the coal loader at the back of the pic.
