UP9005 throttles up to move a CNW Falcon connection westward.

storyUnion Pacific had six GP40X locos, which were frequently used as lead units on the railroad's hottest piggyback trains between Omaha/Fremont and North Platte, Nebraska. On one particular trip by this photographer, all six GP40X units were seen leading trains on this division in one day. Woo hoo!
Excellent shot! More please!
Thanks, William!
Great shot, love the dust cloud being kicked up!
Thanks, kyt98p! They were never shy about running up the throttle on these trains. At the time, the speed limit on the highway was 55, and during the drive from Grand Island to North Platte and back, it was not unusual to be overtaken by several hot piggyback trains. They might be paced for a few miles, but it was impossible to get ahead of them without risking a ticket from the Nebraska State Patrol.
