Milwaukee engines rarely got to run fast out west unless they were on BN's Vancouver/Seattle mainline. Milwaukee had trackage rights on that stretch, dating from 1970 when they were granted certain conditions by the ICC as a result of the BN merger which combined Great Northern, Northern Pacific, Chicago Burlington & Quincy and Spokane Portland & Seattle. In the above photo, the engineer is blowing out the cobwebs and doing over 50 MPH with mixed freight for the Tacoma/Seattle area.
