I love this picture. I have a model of 9004 I am super detailing using this photo as a guide. What other locomotives were in this consist? Also was it hauling 85 foot trailers or impact intermodal cars? Thanks for any insight!
@blackopsmacvsog Thanks blackops! Yes, this is also one my favorites. All the cars were 89-ft. TTX flats (and some railroad-owned), since spine cars of any sort didn’t come along till the mid-80s (Santa Fe’s Ten-Pack Fuel Foilers were the first, in 84 or 85, I believe). The second unit is a CNW GP50 and the third is a UP U30C. This is most likely a CNW Falcon train, handed over to UP at Fremont, NE. I did not record the trailing unit numbers, unfortunately... was not much into record-keeping at the time. Good luck with your project!
@blackopsmacvsog Just noticed that this unit does indeed have the green-painted short-hood-top treatment. As this was considered a premium leader unit by UP, it no doubt received the latest features of UP paint-scheme doctrine of the time.
I couldn't tell. In 1981 they started getting rid of the green hoods. I went ahead a assumed it had it's removed considering UP moved the horn and added the rotary beacon to this particular model locomotive. I could be wrong however. I appreciate the update!
