Your slide pictures from 1970s and 1980s are stunning, these are the best shots that I have seen from this era. Kodachrome quality was very high. Were there any train photographers during that time who used medium format - 6x6, 6x7 or 6x9 slides? What was the reason of 35mm being so much more common compared to medium format? Was the reason availability of Kodachrome and telephoto lenses?
@Kees Thank you! Yes, I’m sure there were a few people using medium format (I had a 6x4.5 Bronica ETRS from 83 to 90), but it was much easier and cheaper to work with 35mm then, due to the cost of MF film and processing. I also found that railroad magazines were not interested in dealing with medium format slides, which did not fit their usual operations, apparently. That was a bit of a disappointment after buying MF equipment. I’d have been better off switching from Minolta to the Nikon F3 that had just come out, but I already had a few Minolta lenses. Kodachrome was the gold standard and since Kodak discontinued it, nothing has ever equaled the quality and realistic saturation. Digital is good, but will probably never compare to Kodachrome film.
