UP 951 West leads a multi-railroad Operation Lifesaver special.

storyLocos from five railroads (UP, SP, BN, KCS and MKT) pulled a mixed batch of passenger cars in a route around eastern Kansas in April 1986, beginning in Kansas City, Missouri, and visiting Emporia, Newton, McPherson and Salina before returning to KC. The flat car behind the locos held a big sign which said "Anytime is train time" along with an American flag. Mostly UP passenger cars were used, but SP, BN and Santa Fe provided a few as well. In this view, the train is leaving the division point ATSF depot at Emporia, which was still used for offices, crew change facilities and a dispatching center at the time. Under later BNSF ownership, the crew change point was eliminated and the depot building demolished.
