Colorado's Joint Line is undergoing a metamorphosis. On May 20, 2015 BNSF took over track and signal maintenance on the southbound mainline South Littleton to Bragdon, Colorado, and the UP took over the northbound main. Included in the BNSF section is the single track between Palmer Lake and Crews. As such BNSF has instituted a major rebuilding of all the former UP southbound sections. Massive work windows are in effect many 12-hours at a time. As such rail traffic has been rerouted and train counts down! BNSF unit southbound ballast train was part of this maintenance project.
