Ab 608 approaches Ava with special from Wellington marking 100 years of ANZAC Day honoring our war veterans. Built in 1915, this locomotive was later dedicated as a war memorial honoring over 400 railwaymen who did not return from World War I. Owned by New Zealand Railway & Locomotive Society, which raised over $500,000, mostly by donations, for restoration of this locomotive.
