The DX class were built by General Electric's Erie, PA plant and entered service from 1972. From 1988 the DX class received cab modifications including replacement of twin front windows then were upgraded to U26C C30-MMI. The milk trains serve a giant milk powder factory at Whareroa, Hawera and run around the clock during the season. Turakina tunnel is 2.5 Km long.
Hey John, how did you get to that side of the bridge? I looked at it before christmas but couldn't see a clear or easy way.
Welcome to Trainspo.com Michael. This was accessed from the township. I'm not sure what it's like now as I haven't been back there. There's a nice shot from the track/ driveway above the tunnel portal which I'm yet to get.
Ah ok. I looked at the tunnel side of the bridge but that’s no good for Palmy bound trains! Ended up making do at the crossing immediately south of the township.
