Yes, these were the diesels that put an end to steam power in the US. Thousands of diesels were built and were much more reliable than steam engines, which spent over 50% of their service lives in the roundhouse, being maintained. Diesels were on the job more than 90% of the time. Plus, steam engines were not as powerful at low speeds, unlike diesels, which could work well at any speed.
