SP 7231 is one of only four such units acquired by SP, but the usual practice was to run all four in a group due to electrical issues unique to the model. Here it is in later life, running with other EMD products. It is heading for Topeka, KS, and the eastern entrance to the former Rock Island line to New Mexico, now known as the Cotton Rock due to its ownership by SP subsidiary SSW (Cotton Belt).
