For the railways of the USSR in the course of the need for high-speed traffic, it was decided to create high-speed electric locomotives for these purposes. The USSR ordered passenger electric locomotives with a capacity of 8x1050 kW in Czechoslovakia at Skoda factory with the designation ChS200 (66E0). In 1974, the ChS200 was built with the numbers 001 and 002. The prototype of the cab form was the ES499.0 electric locomotive. Due to the high power of the traction motors, 4 pantographs were installed to avoid overheating of the contact network. The test reached a speed of 210 km / h. These electric locomotives helped to gain experience in creating high-speed electric locomotives and in 1979 to 1980 from 003 to 012, serial electric locomotives ChS200 (66E1) were produced. They acquired a more aerodynamic form of the cabin, another body, and other pantographs. Serial electric locomotives are still operating on the October Railway. Recently, these locomotives carried the fastest passenger train in Russia - the Nevsky Express. At the moment, the ChS200 is less and less noticeable with the Nevsky Express, basically the new model of the EP20 is doing it. Some of the locomotives are kept in reserve. ChS200 is one of the symbols of high-speed traffic in Russia.
