This is one of two GP30 rebuilt by Illinois Central Gulf Railroad in 1982 in an attempt to enter the locomotive remanufacturing business. It was planned to take old GP30 and GP35 locomotives and upgrade the electrical system and increase the horsepower. Only the two demonstrators were ever built, and both now work for the Arizona Central. They both use trucks from Alco locomotives traded in to EMD for the construction of the original GP30s.
