The Golden Spike National Historical Park is definitely worth a visit. In addition to the operational replicas of the two locomotives that met here in 1869, there is a nice little museum with artifacts associated with the transcontinental railroad. During the summer there are reenactments of the original golden spike ceremony. A self guided auto tour following the roadbed of the original line, which was abandoned in 1942, is also available.

Furthermore, the two replicas were built by OConnor Engineering Laboratories in 1979, based on drawings Chad OConnor formulated entirely from photos of the original locomotives, since none of the original drawings or locos survived.
