On October 29, 2022, the Rhaetian Railway operated the longest passenger train in the world with 25 four-car Capricorn multiple units.(unit numbers 3111-3112-3118-3113-3144-3126-3120-3140-3128-3117-3138-3142-3123-3127-3141-3135-3129-3130-3137-3114-3125-3119-3139-3145-3131). The 1910-meter-long composition consisted of one hundred cars, had 4550 seats, and was driven by seven locomotive drivers who were in communication with each other via a Civil Defense field telephone. On the descent from Preda to Alvaneu, 789 meters of altitude were covered. In view of the heavy weight of around 2990 tons, the train only ran at 30 to 35 km/h. This ensured that, when the train was in use, it could only travel at a speed of 30 to 35 km/h. This ensured that the power grid was not overloaded when the recuperation brakes were used.
The event was held as part of the "175 Years of Swiss Railways" celebrations and served as an advertisement for passenger service on the narrow-gauge railroad. A test run with 16 compositions was carried out in May 2022.
