Konkan Railway (KR) was one of the last major diesel traction territory in Indian Railways. Almost 87% of the broad gauge section of Indian Railways have been electrified. But I had a hope that KR would last as a diesel traction for some more time. But the electrification work which started in 2019 was so fast that by 2022, the whole KR region was fully electrified and operational. Thus a major section for diesel traction spotting was lost. But the change is inevitable. In my last visit in 2019, I spent three days at Suravali capturing ALCos & EMDs and there were no poles too. Now being a fully electric traction section, I got a brand new WAG-9HC as my first shot of electric power in KR section. Still many freights have diesel traction but still that charm of being a diesel traction territory will never return.
