British Rail had two versions of the class 47/7 the photo here being one of the later batch numbered 47 721 to 47 793. They were rebuilt from standard class 47/4's or 47/8's and fitted with RCH (Railway Clearing House) jumper cables. There conversion allowed them to work in conjunction with PCV (Propelling Control Vehicles) used on postal and express mail trains. The first series of 47/7's were used on push-pull passenger trains and were fitted with TDM (Time Division Multiplex) jumper cables and were numbered 47 701 to 47 717.
