Steam Incorpoarted Gorge Explorer excursion from Paekakariki to Woodville passes through Manakau on North Island main Trunk near Levin. Between Palmerston North and Woodville the train passes through the Manawutu Gorge before turning on the balloon loop at Woodville. The 4-8-2 Ja class was the last built for NZ Railways and coal-fired 1271 was built around 1955-56 at NZR Hillside, Dunedin.
