The East Coast Main Trunk serves New Zealand's principal export ports at Tauranga and Mt Maunganui and paper mills at Kawerau and Kinleith. Tauranga hosts the National Jazz Festival which is like a huge street carnival. Steam Inc ran trains complete with jazz band. Here we see the return working to Paekakariki, the train being towed by 2 diesels through the almost 9 Km long Kaimai tunnel.
