Are locomotives permitted to haul in long hood in lead as the loco in the left side does ?

Thank you. To answer your question; typically not. The train on the left is going away from me, and the rear end of these units does not have the ditch lights required for operation on the front of a train. They could run backwards for short distances, but the controls are not set up for such running, either. If a unit is on the rear of a train as a DPU, its rear-facing headlight is set to "Dim" as a marker.
