Ormea-Ceva regional train

Fresh green view! Are there some tourist attractions or is only a rural secondary line?
storyThe original project of the Ceva-Ormea was a Railway that connects the cities of Turin and Ceva, to the ligurian coast in Oneglia, but the final and most expensive part between Ormea and the Seaside was never built. With that the line became not so relevant, but it became useful for the people of the Tanaro-valley. The 36km line has been electrified in three-phase-current from 1938 to 1973. Then it turned back to a typical italian secondary line with railcars like this one (The poles on the picture remembers the
electrification, they had been restored a few years ago for the railway-museum of the line that is now in the restored goods shed that you see at your left). On the 16th of June, 2012, the last train ran on this line, on the next day, the line had been closed because of economical problems and bad politics in favour of bus companies (shame on our politicians!). Now the line is still closed but the piedmontese railway museum of Savigliano would like to organize touristic train rides on that line because of the architectural and cultural beauty of the Tanaro valley. In May,2014 a polical change affected piedmont, so a reopening to normal service may be possible, but for now, there are only big words and speculations, i hope for the best.
Sad story, but thank for sharing it! Same situation in Romania, too! Beautiful secondary lines are closed in favour of bus companies...
