The US Space Shuttle program used rocket motors produced by Morton Thiokol Corporation in Utah for lift-off from Earth, which began their eastward trip on Union Pacific. At Kansas City, the special (and very heavy) cars were transferred to KCS, which handled the second leg of the journey. Here, the motors are placed at the head-end of train 81 and are about to cross the Blue Parkway viaduct in Kansas City on the trip south. Security personnel ride the private passenger car behind the power.
