Broadway was one of the last two manned interlocking towers in western Missouri at the time (the other tower being just across the Missouri River from here: BN's Ustick tower). With mergers and technological improvements, however, both towers became obsolete and were replaced by centralized dispatcher coverage from other cities; UP in Omaha and BNSF in Fort Worth.
