In the US, diesel locomotive speed controls have eight notches (plus idle) to which the throttle handle may be set. The highest, Notch 8, is often referred to as the Company Notch, since it results in getting the freight over the road more quickly and therefore makes customers, management and shareholders happy. The engineer operating the 5122 is clearly making people happy here, including the photographer! As they say in Texas, "Yee-Haa!"
