CR 6399 South leads an NS freight over the New River bridge.

storyThough it can hardly be appreciated with this image, the former Southern Railway bridge over the New River stands at 389 feet above water level and is the tallest railroad bridge in the state of Tennessee. It is 1068 feet in length, built in 1963 during a major realignment of the Cincinnati Southern's "Rathole Division" whereby a number of tunnels and steep grades were eliminated. The Conrail unit leading is run-through power provided for use by Southern in exchange for Southern units sent into Conrail territory up north.
