The DX class was built by General Electric's Erie, PA plant and entered service from 1972. From 1988 the original U26C received modifications with new motors and Brightstar fitted and were classified DXB and DXC (C26-MMI and C30-MMI.) MetroPort trains run around the clock between Auckland and Tauranga, almost always hauled by DL class locomotive.
