Ro-Ro i.e. Roll on, Roll off is the name of this unique service of transporting loaded trucks between a few fixed pairs of stations. Special ramps have been prepared on these stations for loading and unloading of the trucks on modified flat wagons. Transporting in this manner saves at least one day and huge amount of fuel for the truckers. It started on 26th January 1999 on Konkan railway route of Indian Railways and now is being extended to other routes.
@lalam in Europe we call it Ro-La (Rollende Landstrasse). You can see them on the Major alp-transit routes From Italy to northern Europe and across France (Bettembourg-Le Boulou).
