It's very rare to see an Engineering train on the RER line E beetween Noisy-le-Sec and Haussmann Saint-Lazare and even more this train which is very discreet most of the time !
This train of SNCF Engineering works with Eurailtest and he is composed of the VULCAIN test wagon equiped of two pantographs : one for the lines operating under 1500V DC and another one for the lines operating under 25000V AC. He captures a constant traction current over time (on the contrary to what a train does) from which it dissipates the energy into resistances. The current normally is maintained in the rails. The locomotives are equiped with KHEOPS sensors that make it possible to analyze the return path of the traction current. All this goes back in LUCIE test car where the agents analyze the datas, and control VULCAIN. This allows to check that the current is back correctly.
