Southern Pacific used old pieces of rail to mark their property line. They’re not very common any more but I found several along the old West Valley line. Now just a stub operated by California Northern, it used to extend from Tracy to Fresno, California. Passenger trains ran on this route until 1965.
maersk.146Nice bit of history. Would you say the distance to track center line is about 50 feet?
1cctlivesI didn't even think to look, and I used to work as a land surveyor before I retired! 50 feet seems like a good estimate. I'm not sure how precise a job the railroad did putting them in though.
maersk.146I imagine close was good enough back then...
