The DJ class built by Mitsubishi in Japan entered service in 1968-69 and several are operated by Dunedin Railways. Visiting restored classic English Electric loco DG 772 assists 1221 on Dunedin Railways train 1911 Dunedin to Pukerangi. This popular tourist train along the the remnant of the Otago Central Line through the spectacular Taieri Gorge is suspended/ mothballed until the international cruise industry recovers.
